In this Psalm, David is fleeing from his son Absalom. Many rose up against him during this time and he is in trouble. His enemies even tell him that his God cannot help him. David makes a declaration in the mist of trouble. "LORD, you are a shield for me." He is calling on the Lord for help and without hesitation.
God was more than just a shield of protection but "my glory, and the lifter up of mine head." According to the Oxford dictionary, glory is defined as: praise, worship and thanksgiving offered to a deity; taking great pride or pleasure in; high renown or honor won by notable achievements; very great praise, honor. David knew only God could save him and no one else.
No matter what enemy, the circumstances and situations this life comes with, just as David called on God to shield him, we have the ability to do the same. It is for His glory alone.
